I am fundraising for a volunteer trip down to earthquake ravaged Haiti with Burners without Borders and Shelters International based in Jacmel, Haiti. I have been informed that Shelters International is in the process of receiving a grant from the Salvation Army to build shelters in Jacmel, Haiti. Burners without Borders are also raising funds for these shelters to be built in Jacmel, (see attached website for more information). I have been asked to help with the management and construction of “Grandma’s House” and an orphanage in Jacmel, so that the residents do not have to endure a potentially long rainy season without shelter. My target date of arrival is mid-July to early August and I will work with Shelters International for two weeks to a month, depending on fundraising. I have several years of project management/construction engineering experience with affordable housing, residential and commercial construction. Burners Without Borders have asked each builder to fundraise for our plane tickets, transportation costs about the island, and food. I will also be investigating sustainable construction efforts with other NGOs such as Kleiwerks International.
